Re: Dove, It's very interesting to consider, isn't it? I mean, Olay seems much more "female" than Dove...but in general, it's risky business to extend brands into a space where there could be so many disconnects.

I'm very curious to see where Manthem ends up rating. Going in I expected it to be a "FAIL" but was surprised at how good it turned out to be. The creative was definitely weaker compared to Dove Evolution and others in the Real Beauty campaign...but I think right now they want to stick primarily with a functional message. It's harder--although clearly not impossible--to be creative with a functional message.

What do others think? Can an ad have "breakthrough" creative and still be focused primarily on functional benefits?

Deb- I am looking forward to your post Bowl postings! Did you agree with Bob Gardfield? He made my day with this comment: "Doritos: One funeral, one man being choked and one gym rat being impaled in the neck by a Doritos hurled by a snack-chip-obsessed martial artist. Three "winners" proving once again that what consumers generate in their ads is mainly vulgar and trite."

Also, I watched "the rest of the Tebow story" at the FoF site. It was really long and my main takeaway-Ignore medical advice and do what you want. If you pray for it to happen, it will just happen.
And yet, I STILL like the Tebows.
Mary Steenbergen should definitely play Mrs Tebow in the Tim Tebow movie.

Hey Prof. Mitchell,

I am curious what you think about Dove extending the brand to men with the
"Men + Care" body wash line...I know you've paid a lot of attention to the
brand's Campaign for Real Beauty, and I think the strategy to extend across
gender is an interesting one. I can't help but think that if P&G didn't have
Old Spice and Gillette, would they be as bold as to take Olay in a similar
direction?
